Patrick Stewart Makes Poop Jokes In Emoji Movie Trailer
The first full trailer for The Emoji Movie is here, and it's definitely going to make you Grinning Face. The movie follows the emojis in the phone of Alex (Jake T. Austin), a young kid who's just trying to send a "meh" face to his girlfriend. However, what Alex doesn't know is all the craziness going on inside his phone, where emojis live with just one emotion, waiting to be called up to the big leaues.
The emoji at the center of it all, Gene (T.J. Miller), is a Meh Emoji who has struggled his whole life because he's different than the rest of his peers. "Welcome to the world inside your phone, where everyone is expected to act one way their whole life," Gene says as he introduces the viewer to Textopolis. Gene is supposed to be Meh all the time, but he has more than one emotion, something which immediately worries his Meh parents. "What if you get sent out of the phone making the wrong face?" his father (Steven Wright) asks.
Just that happens shortly after, when Gene gets sent out making a wild, tongue-out face. This gets him sent to the Loser Lounge, where unused emojis like the Broom, the Suitcase, and the Disco Ball reside. He teams up with Hi-5 (James Corden) and Jailbreak (Anna Faris) to find the Source Code so he can figure out how to fit in. They'll face a number of trials on the way, including getting through a Firewall and playing a game of Candy Crush.
However, as it turns out, a bigger threat is coming to Textopolis, and the fate of all emojis will depend on the three unlikely friends. "Nobody leaves the phone," a mysterious female says. "Delete them." It appears that Gene's ability to feel multiple emotions will be the key to saving everyone, though, as he begins to realize just how different he is throughout the trailer. "My feelings are huge," Gene says. "Maybe I'm meant to have more than just one emotion."
The trailer ends with a fun clip featuring Patrick Stewart's Poop Emoji. "Okay son, what do we do after we go potty?" he says to his offspring as they emerge from a stall. "Should we wash our hands?" his son replies, before they both begin to crack up as they leave the bathroom, chanting, "We're number two!"
The movie, which also stars Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Coolidge, Maya Rudolph, and Rob Riggle, is directed by Anthony Leondis (Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch) based on a script from Leondis, Mike White (School of Rock), and Eric Siegel (The Hard Times of RJ Berger). The film, one of the many that will blow you away this summer, is due out on Aug. 4.
