First Star Trek: Discovery Trailer Revealed

"Ten years before Kirk, Spock, and the Enterprise, there was Discovery."

Following the release of the first photo from Star Trek: Discovery, CBS has unveiled the very first trailer for the long-awaited sci-fi series. The company debuted the clip during its Upfront presentation on Wednesday, May 17 in New York.

The trailer opens on Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) as First Officer Michael Burnham and Michelle Yeoh (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) as Captain Philippa Georgiou walking through the sandy wilderness of a mysterious planet.

"Captain, where are we going?" asks Burnham. "We have no map, and you can't set a course without a star."

"It's hard to imagine you've served under me for seven years," Georgiou responds. "Burnham, I think it is time we talk about you having your own command."

A massive spaceship enters from the corner of the screen, and the pair climb aboard, jetting off to a great unknown. The trailer teases that if Burnham wishes to lead her own troupe, she must have a "profound cause" around which others can rally.

We're also shown glimpses of space rock belts, new alien species, and, of course, the Klingons and the Vulcans. The trailer closes on an ominous message: The coming of death is fast approaching.

CBS also confirmed (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the series has been bumped up to a 15-episode order. The first episode will premiere on CBS, with all subsequent episodes airing on CBS All Access.

Joining Martin-Green and Yeoh in the series are Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Doug Jones as Lieutenant Saru, Anthony Rapp as Lieutenant Stamets, James Frain as Sarek, and Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd. Mary Chieffo, Shazad Latif, Chris Obi, Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy, Kenneth Mitchell, Rekha Sharma, Sam Vartholomeos, Clare McConnell, and Damon Runyan round out the Discovery cast.

Star Trek: Discovery doesn't have a set debut date just yet, but hopefully we'll know more in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out what we hope to see in the show when it's finally released.
