Vanessa Bayer Leaving Saturday Night Live
Vanessa Bayer is pulling a Bobby Moynihan. Following the announcement that Moynihan would be exiting the late-night sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, Bayer has also confirmed her departure after a seven-season run. According to Deadline, Bayer's contract was up. SNL executives declined to comment on the news.
Bayer took to social media to speak on her Saturday Night Live withdrawal, penning a farewell note on her Instagram account. With the help of SNL writer Colin Jost, Bayer apparently got a proper sendoff. "Thank you SNL for seven years of laughs, love, and incredible memories. It has been a dream come true. And thanks for this goodbye sketch at the table, Colin," Bayer wrote. The caption accompanied a photo of a script that references several pop culture figures, a few of which Bayer has played on SNL in the past.
The longest-serving current female cast member on SNL, Bayer joined the show back in 2010 as a featured player. In 2013, she was bumped up to repertory status, where she starred in sketches like "J-Pop America Fun Time Now" and "Weekend Update," and played memorable characters like Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy and Rebecca Stern-Markowicz. Bayer has also become known for her celebrity impressions, most notably Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Aniston as Rachel from Friends, and former child star Laura Parsons. In 2014, Bayer snagged an American Comedy Award nomination for her work on the series.
Outside of Rockefeller Plaza, Bayer has appeared in television series like Portlandia and popped up in such films as Trainwreck with Amy Schumer and Office Christmas Party alongside fellow SNL star Kate McKinnon.
Saturday Night Live will wrap its 42nd season on May 20. To celebrate, take a look at the untold truth of the show.
