Hailee Steinfeld In Talks To Star In Transformers Spinoff

A Pitch Perfect star could join forces with famous robots in disguise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations to star in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.

Directed by Kubo and the Two Strings helmer Travis Knight, the upcoming film follows Bumblebee, a yellow and black striped Autobot that has popped up as a main character in past Transformers franchise installments. Shut In scribe Christina Hodson penned the movie's script.

Plot details are being kept super hush-hush, but what we do know is that if the deal with Paramount Pictures goes through, Steinfeld will play a high school/college-aged tomboy character who works part-time as a mechanic.

Bumblebee is anticipated to be the first entry into Paramount's Transformers Cinematic Universe. The TCU (official name pending) will include prequel films and character offshoots from the Transformers series, which has generated over $3.7 billion worldwide since 2007, when the original movie starring Shia LaBeouf was released. The latest film in the morphing machine franchise is Transformers: The Last Knight, which is due in theaters on June 23.

Fans may recognize Steinfeld from her role as Emily Junk in Universal's Pitch Perfect 2, where she starred alongside Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Elizabeth Banks, Brittany Snow, and more. She recently wrapped filming on another song-and-dance sequel, Pitch Perfect 3, which is set for release on December 22. Steinfeld has also had success as a singer, and gained critical recognition for her recent performance in the coming-of-age drama The Edge of Seventeen

Bumblebee is slated for a June 8, 2018 debut. Until then, take a look at the other films we can't wait to see next year
