Julia Roberts In Talks To Star In Mr. Robot Creator's Next Show
Julia Roberts is in talks to lead Sam Esmail's Homecoming, Variety reports.
The Mr. Robot creator is set to write the series, an adaptation of the fictional podcast of the same name which featured performances from the likes of Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac, Amy Sedaris, David Schwimmer, and David Cross. The show will follow a caseworker at a secret government facility, her supervisor, and a soldier; in the podcast, some of the workers at the facility are desperate to get out and rejoin civilian life. Roberts is in talks to play the caseworker, the role voiced by Keener on the podcast.
Homecoming doesn't have a network attached yet, but should Roberts officially sign on, it should be easy for Esmail to find a home for it. Esmail burst onto the scene in 2015 with the twisty Mr. Robot. Since then, he has been in demand for high-profile projects, including being rumored for a possible Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spin-off film.
For Roberts, an Oscar winner for Erin Brockovich, Homecoming is the second TV project in the past week. The actress also recently signed on to star in Today Will Be Different, an adaptation of the book of the same name, for HBO. Her other upcoming project is Wonder, where she will co-star opposite Owen Wilson and Room breakout Jacob Tremblay; that film is due out on November 17.
