John Boyega Gets Dramatic In Intense New Detroit Trailer

Change is coming in the new trailer for Detroit. The drama stars John Boyega as Melvin Dismukes, a young police officer during the riots in Detroit during the summer of 1967. The film specifically focuses on the Algiers Motel Incident, in which three young black men were killed by police.

The new trailer begins with Dismukes in an interrogation room, where he is asked to explain what went on at the motel. He says that he was working security when he heard gunfire. The police showed up and he heard shooting, and eventually went inside to find that three people had been killed. However, when he tells the other officers this, they don't believe him, alleging that Dismukes was actually the one who killed the men.

The trailer then moves into showing more of the riot, which is described as a "war zone," before showing the incident in more detail. "I'm just gonna assume you're all criminals," someone says. It also gives flashes of those pushing for things to be different, using a refrain of "change is coming" to intercut its horrifying violent images.

Will Poulter, Jacob Latimore, John Krasinski, Anthony Mackie, Jason Mitchell, Ben O'Toole, Jack Reynor, Joseph David-Jones, Algee Smith, Kaitlyn Dever, and Hannah Murray also star in the film, which was directed by The Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow based on a script from that film's Mark Boal. The movie, one of many that will blow you away this summer, is due out on Aug. 4.
