Jake Gyllenhaal Stars In The Trailer For Boston Marathon Drama Stronger

Jake Gyllenhaal could be an Oscar contender for his portrayal of Jeff Bauman, a 27 year-old working class man who became a symbol of strength after losing both his legs during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions released the first trailer for Stronger, based on Bauman's true and heartbreaking story. Unlike Mark Wahlberg's Patriot's Day, the movie will focus on what happened after the bombing and how the event changed the lives of Bauman and his ex-girlfriend Erin (Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany), who was running in the marathon. After helping law enforcement identify one of the bombers, Bauman endured months of physical and emotional rehabilitation, with the support of Erin and his family.

David Gordon Green (All the Real Girls, Pineapple Express) directs the biopic, and from the looks of the trailer, he brought out incredibly moving performances from his actors. Gyllenhaal is definitely at the top of his game. He's also reportedly set to reteam with his Nightcrawler director in a new movie set in the art world.

Stronger will arrive in theaters on Sept. 22.
