Intense Dunkirk TV Spot Teases Ticket Sales Soon
Never surrender in the new TV spot for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. The highly-anticipated film tells the story of the 1940 evacuation of the French city of Dunkirk, where thousands of soldiers were left stranded on a beach surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach as the enemy closes in, they have to find a way to get out of the impossible situation.
The teaser, like most of the film's marketing material thus far, focuses mostly on action, showing off explosions, planes flying, and men running, all set to the sound of a ticking clock. "We shall fight on the beach," a voiceover says. "We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields, in the streets. We shall never surrender."
The big reveal in the teaser (aside from a brief glimpse at One Directioner Harry Styles in peril) is the announcement that tickets for the film will go on sale Friday, with special 70MM engagement tickets being released the day before. The film is scoring the widest 70MM release in 25 years, hitting 125 theaters in the high-resolution format. (via Variety)
Dunkirk is told from three perspectives: that of the soldiers on land, some of whom were stuck there for a full week; the British pilots in the air, coming to try and rescue them; and the boats, from both the Navy and civilians, coming to their aid by sea. Fionn Whitehead, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, James D'Arcy, Jack Lowden, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Aneurin Barnard star in the ambitious film, which is set for a July 21 release. While we wait, read up on the untold truth of Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
