Watch The Magical Teaser Trailer For A Wrinkle In Time
"What if we are here for a reason? What if we are part of something truly divine? Imagine, 91 billion light years traveled like that."
Those are the words that open the first look at one of next year's most anticipated movies: Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time.
The visionary director unveiled the teaser trailer during this weekend's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, where it was met with thunderous applause. Featuring gorgeous sets, stunning costume design, bold makeup, and plenty of mind-bending scenes, the clip promises that A Wrinkle in Time will be something quite special.
An adaptation of Madeliene L'Engle's timeless book, A Wrinkle in Time is an epic adventure that "takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and ultimately, the triumph of love" (via YouTube). During D23, DuVernay described the project as "a family story wrapped in an epic adventure where you see worlds you've never seen before" (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The project stars newcomer Storm Reid as Meg Murry, a 13-year-old girl whose scientist father (Pine) goes missing after a sudden disappearance years earlier. Much to Meg's surprise, her father has unlocked the groundbreaking ability to warp (or, more appropriately, wrinkle) time and space. However, his newfound power has landed him prisoner on a foreign planet, and Meg must journey through time to find him.
Joining Pine and Reid are legendary talk-show host Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which, Big Little Lies actress Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit, The Hangover actor Zach Galifianakis as Happy Medium, and The Mindy Project funny-lady Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who. Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Concussion, Beauty and the Beast), Michael Peňa (Ant-Man), Levi Miller (Pan), Deric McCabe (Stephanie), André Holland (Moonlight), and Rowan Blanchard (Girl Meets World) round out the glittering cast.
Of the film's diverse cast, DuVernay said that she wanted to gather together a group of actors that "looked like the real world" (via THR). Stars Reid and Witherspoon both praised DuVernay's filmmaking choices, with Reid stating that the director is "so patient and so hands-on" and Witherspoon revealing that DuVernay has a magical touch and can "see.. the beauty of the world."
A Wrinkle in Time is slated for release on March 9, 2018 and will likely become yet another movie you won't want to miss next year.
