The LEGO Ninjago Movie Gets A New Trailer
Meowthra is here in the new trailer for The LEGO Ninjago Movie. The trailer, released at San Diego Comic-Con, shows off LEGO's newest villain, a real-life cat, as well as the adventures and hijinks of its upcoming ninja flick.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie stars Jackie Chan as Master Wu, a wise-cracking kung fu master tasked with training six teenage warriors, led by the Green Ninja Lloyd (Dave Franco), to defeat the evil warlord Garmadon (Justin Theroux), the "Worst Guy Ever" who just happens to be Lloyd's dead. The epic showdown tests the team of fierce but undisciplined ninjas as they have to learn how to check their egos and unleash their true power.
As the trailer shows, Lloyd struggles with his father's career as an evil warlord. The trailer begins with Lloyd questioning his mother Koko (Olivia Munn) about how the two ended up together in the first place. "He was so ambitious," she says. "He said he wanted to conquer the world. I thought it was a figure of speech."
By day, Lloyd's villainous father makes him an outcast, but by night, he's one of the few working to save the city from his father's ways. However, as Master Wu clearly knows, these ninjas are still teenagers, which means that they may not be in tip-top fighting shape just yet. (And they still have to ask for a bathroom pass to run off and fight crime during class.)
Lloyd (or L-loyd, as his father calls him) decides that there is more about Garmadon that he needs to learn, and he is eventually told by Master Wu that his father was a ninja as well. It appears that the two will eventually end up on the same side, with their union possibly coming due to the introduction of Meowthra, the real-life adorable cat who wreaks havoc on the city. (The cat is one of many "natural elements" that the film will incorporate.)
Michael Pena, Abbi Jacobson, Kumail Nanjiani, Fred Armisen, and Zach Woods also star in The LEGO Ninjago Movie, which is directed by Charlie Bean based on a script from Hilary Winston, Bob Logan, and Paul Fisher. The movie is due out on Sept. 22; in the meantime, see the untold truth of The Lego Movie.
