Supergirl Season 3 Trailer Released
Supergirl will face some super challenges in season 3.
During the CW presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, the series' new showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming third season.
The clip highlights Kara Zor-El/Supergirl's (Melissa Benoist) new story arc, particularly the struggles she'll have to overcome in upcoming episodes, her new outlook on humanity and her own identity, and how she'll battle the bad guys that seem to be getting bigger.
Still reeling from her life-changing decision to have Mon-El (Chris Woods) and the bundle of Daxamites depart from Earth in order to save the planet, Kara's entire world feels shifted. The choice she made is one she must live with for the rest of her life, and that's a fact she's seen grappling with in this new footage.
Beyond our the Girl of Steel, the trailer gives us a few glimpses at Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima). Lima's inclusion in the tense trailer may surprise some Supergirl fans, as the actress recently confirmed that she was no longer attached as a series regular. Rather, Lima is expected to pop up as a recurring character in the third season, though it's still unknown how large her presence will be. Given her appearance in the Comic-Con trailer, we bet it's fairly substantial.
Additionally, the trailer provides first looks at all-new characters like Morgan Edge, played by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Adrian Pasdar, and Reign, played by Cloverfield actress Odette Annable. Smallville standout Erica Durance also appears as Kara's mother, Alura. Durance takes over the role from Laura Benanti, who played Alura in the show's first two seasons (via Variety).
Supergirl season 3 will hit the CW on October 9. In the meantime, brush up on your Girl of Steel knowledge by reading about her insane history.
