Homeland's Numan Acar Joins Live-Action Aladdin Remake
Jafar has found his right hand man. Deadline reports that Homeland's Numan Acar has joined Disney's upcoming live-action Aladdin remake as Hakim, the head of the guards at the palace and Jafar's confidant.
Murder on the Orient Express star Marwan Kenzari is set to play the big bad in the upcoming flick, which will be directed by Guy Ritchie. Mena Massoud will play the title character opposite Power Rangers' Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. Will Smith will try to fill Robin Williams' shoes as the magical genie, while Saturday Night Live's Nasim Pedrad (who played Jasmine in bits for the sketch show) will pop up in a comic relief role as Jasmine's handmaiden and friend.
Acar is known for his appearances in Prison Break, The Great Wall, and The Promise. His other upcoming roles include the drama In the Fade opposite Diane Kruger and the thriller Horse Soldiers, about a U.S. Special Forces team sent to Afghanistan in the weeks following 9/11. In that film, he will be joined by Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, and Michael Pena.
Big Fish's John August wrote the script for the live-action take on Aladdin, which the studio previously described as an "ambitious and nontraditional" take on the classic story, which was brought to mainstream audiences with the hugely popular 1992 cartoon. The movie does not have a release date yet; while we wait, see some things in the animated movie that you only notice as an adult.
