Star Wars Launches Augmented Reality Experience For Force Friday II
The Star Wars universe will take a page out of the Pokemon Go playbook this Force Friday.
Disney and Lucasfilm are launching Find the Force, a new augmented reality event that will let fans search for Star Wars characters using their smartphones and the Star Wars app during the massive product launch tied to The Last Jedi.
From September 1 to 3, fans can visit more than 20,000 retailers in 30 countries and search for the Find the Force logo. Once located, fans who scan it with the app will reveal a character who will appear to be right there in the store. That means you can take a photo or video standing alongside the likes of Admiral Ackbar (as demonstrated in the video above). There are a total of 15 characters (five per day) that can be unlocked. If you tweet photos or videos of your characters using the hashtags using #FindtheForce and #Sweepstakes during the weekend, you'll be entered to win in a chance to attend the premiere of The Last Jedi.
In addition, the press release for the event promises that "fans will reveal a new The Last Jedi character via social media," although it's not entirely clear how that will happen.
The first Force Friday went down in 2015 to launch the toys for The Force Awakens. Lucasfilm also released another cryptic teaser for this year's event (below).
The Last Jedi lands in theaters Dec. 15. In the meantime, check out some of the biggest mysteries surrounding the movie.
