Brenton Thwaites To Take The Lead As Robin In DC Live-Action Series Titans
The Teen Titans are officially all grown up as Australian actor Brenton Thwaites prepares to don the mask as Robin in a new live-action series from DC Entertainment, Deadline has revealed.
Thwaites, who recently starred in Gods of Egypt and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, will play Dick Grayson, AKA the original Boy Wonder. As Robin, he will be the leader of an upstart team of superheroes that includes Starfire, played by Anna Diop, and Raven, played by Teagan Croft. The Teen Titans character Beast Boy is also expected to appear, but casting for the role has not yet been announced.
Titans is a new series produced by Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros TV, expected to premiere in 2018 as the flagship series on an upcoming DC-centric digital service. An animated series, Young Justice: Outsiders, will also premiere on DC's platform.
"Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn't easy to find him but we have," said Johns, who will also write the series alongside Goldsman and Berlanti. "Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman's former protege and the Titans' future leader. We're extremely lucky he's chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character."
