Marvel Legacy Trailer Teases Return Of Iconic Character

A major character is coming back to the Marvel Comics universe, we just don't know which one.

Marvel released a teaser trailer for Marvel Legends, a line-wide rebrand and relaunch of its superhero comic line, and it offers a first look at some of the many titles to come.

"Marvel Legacy is a sweeping, all-encompassing epic that sets up and keys off secrets and surprises and storylines," said executive editor Tom Brevoort. "Marvel Legacy is our attempt to go back to the roots, the bedrock, of storytelling that is the Marvel Universe. You'll see old faces back [that] you haven't seen in a while, you'll see callbacks to classic tales of the past—it basically is a celebration 50-plus years of storytelling."

Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso expanded by saying, "The Legacy era will usher in the return of some of your favorite classic characters, but not at the expense of the new characters you've recently fallen in love with. Legacy will show you, over time, that there's room for Peter Parker and Miles Morales—the question is, what roads are they going to travel."

But the really big news is that Brevoort said we'll see a character that we haven't seen in some time. "Marvel Legacy also features the surprising, unexpected return of a big Marvel icon." Start guessing now.

The line will begin with Marvel Legacy #1, a 50-page one-shot from writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic that will tell the "startling origin of the Marvel Universe" and tell us how "it's all connected." That comic will be released Sept. 27, and many more will follow.

Until then, take a look back at some of the most disturbing moments in Marvel Comics.
