Matthew Vaughn Confirms He's Had Talks About Directing Man Of Steel 2
Matthew Vaughn could actually be donning the director's cape for Man of Steel 2. The Kingsman: The Golden Circle mastermind revealed in a recent interview with Hey You Guys that he has been in talks to direct the upcoming DC film, confirming months of rumors attaching his name to the project.
"I am planning on doing another Kingsman, I've written the treatment and some of the scenes," Vaughn said at a press junket for The Golden Circle. "I don't know what I'm going to do next but I have had chats about Superman, I love Superman." However, he also opened up quite a lot of possibilities for his future beyond just the DCEU, saying, "If somebody asks me to do Indiana Jones, most of the superheroes or Star Wars, the fanboy in me can't help but be excited."
Vaughn has quite a lot of experience with comic book films. In addition to the Kingsman franchise, he also directed X-Men: First Class and the superhero parody Kick-Ass. He is also known for his adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Stardust. This isn't the first time that Vaughn has gotten close to DC's Superman either; he previously revealed that he had a "very brief chat" with Warner Bros. about a story pitch for Man of Steel before Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer landed the gig.
"We just had an idea for Superman– that was it," he said at the time. He did note that he thought the thing not to do with Superman was make it "too serious," a la Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, adding, "Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me." It's unclear if he still has that direction in mind if he was to take on Man of Steel 2, but his past comments certainly seem to fit with the DCEU's rumored new direction.
Man of Steel 2 does not have a release date yet. While we wait to see if Vaughn will truly sign on to direct, see every exciting movie that DC has planned for the future.
