Mad Men, Game Of Thrones Stars Join Cast Of Das Boot Series
A whole lot of prestige Hollywood actors are headed to the bottom of the ocean for a new adaptation of the story Das Boot.
A new report by Variety breaks down the cast and premise of the eight-episode limited series, which is being produced in Germany on a $31.5 million budget. Vincent Kartheiser of Mad Men is among the more high-profile names to join the series, along with Game of Thrones 'Tom Wlaschiha.
Also in the stacked cast are Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex, Party Down), James D'Arcy (Broadchurch, Agent Carter), August Wittgenstein (The Crown), Rainer Bock (Inglourious Basterds), Rick Okon (Tatort), and Vicky Krieps (Hanna, A Most Wanted Man.)
The new series is based on material from a 1973 World War II novel by Lothar-Günther Buchheim, which was adapted in 1981 into an acclaimed epic film that was also exhibited as a 293-minute miniseries in 1985. Despite sharing a name with the original movie (which in English means "The Boat"), the series will actually serve as a sequel to the story, once again portraying a tale of submarine warfare from a German point of view.
The series will be directed by the Austrian filmmaker Andreas Prochaska, who has an extensive career in European film and television.
