Doctor Who Christmas Special To Screen At Theaters
When Jodie Whittaker takes over as the 13th Doctor, she'll do it in the biggest way possible.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Doctor Who's upcoming Christmas special, "Twice Upon a Time," will screen at U.S. movie theaters for one night only. The episode will be shown at 7PM local time on Dec. 27. After the screening, audiences will be treated to two exclusive bonus pieces that go behind the scenes of the holiday special and celebrate the run of Peter Capaldi, who has played the 12th Doctor since 2013, and exiting showrunner Steven Moffat. It will be the final episode for both.
Capaldi and Whittaker won't be the only Doctors to make an appearance: David Bradley (Walder Frey on Game of Thrones) will play the First Doctor, originally played by the late William Hartnell when the series premiered in 1963.
Pearl Mackie will also be back as Bill, the Doctor's latest companion, and Moffat's Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss will guest star.
"The regeneration of the Doctor is a must see event for Doctor Who fans around the world," said Sergei Kuharsky with BBC Worldwide North America. "And who wouldn't want to watch the historic emergence of Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor on the big screen?"
Tickets for Doctor Who: Twice Upon a Time will be available beginning Oct. 20, and can be purchased by visiting Fathom Events or at participating theater box offices.
Doctor Who returns Dec. 25 on BBC America.
