Phantom Thread Trailer Reveals Final Daniel Day-Lewis Performance

If what Daniel Day-Lewis said is true, this will be the last time we see him onscreen.

Focus Features released the first official trailer for Phantom Thread, the upcoming film from Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Inherent Vice), and it revolves around another complicated figure played by the also complicated Day-Lewis. Back in June, the three-time Oscar winner said that he would retire from acting after the movie.

Set in the glamour world of '50s post-war London, the film stars Day-Lewis as renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock and Lesley Manville as his sister. Together, they dress royalty, movie stars, heiresses, and socialites with the truly distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Although Woodcock is a longtime bachelor with women coming and going from his life, that all changes when he meets a strong-willed young woman named Alma (Vicky Krieps), who becomes his muse and lover. Everything could fall apart when the unpredictable nature of love throws off his carefully tailored life.

Phantom Thread is Anderson's eighth movie and his second collaboration with Day-Lewis after 2007's There Will Be Blood, which brought the actor his second Oscar for Best Actor.

The movie will arrive in select theaters on Dec. 25 with wider release to follow. Take a look at the poster below.
