New Trailer For The Disaster Artist Is Almost Entirely New Footage
Everybody's excited for the big premiere in the latest trailer for The Disaster Artist.
Directed by and starring James Franco, The Disaster Artist aims to tell the inside story of the creation of Tommy Wiseau's The Room, one of the most infamous bad movies ever made. Franco stars as Wiseau, the titular disaster artist, and he's never looked weirder—or weirdly, more at home.
Each trailer for the movie that has come out has revealed more than the last one, and with the movie now poised for release next month, excitement couldn't be higher, especially considering a wave of positive word-of-mouth coming out from early screenings. The most recent, likely final trailer for the movie is available now, and worth watching—compared to previous spots, it's almost entirely new footage.
Reactions to The Disaster Artist's development started with a "huh?" but have grown into a "hell yeah" as more and more details about the project have come to light over the last year. Based on the memoir of the same name by Greg Sestero, who played Mark in The Room, the book and film chronicle the unlikely friendship Sestero had with Wiseau in the years around The Room's development.
In both narratives, the director emerges as a bizarre and fascinating figure, shrouded in mystery, of indiscernible age and national origin, with a want to be an actor and a yearning to be loved.
Dave Franco co-stars, taking on the role of Sestero. The film also stars Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, Ari Granor, Josh Hutcherson, and Jacki Weaver, with a deep bench of cult comedy actors also featuring in the cast, all standing up to be counted and make sure this movie is something special.
While previous trailers have focused more on the moviemaking aspects of The Disaster Artist, this one emphasizes the personal story between Wiseau and Sestero, and also the singularly fascinating figure that is the inscrutable Wiseau. Those who have read the book will recognize a lot of anecdotes on screen; there's even a shot of the infamous The Room billboard, replicated lovingly by the production both for the film and in real life.
Come on, that's just great. This movie looks so much fun.
The Disaster Artist opens in limited engagements in selected theaters on December 1. It will be released nationwide in the US on December 8.
