Watch The First 17 Minutes Of Agents Of SHIELD Season 5
Buckle up, Agents of SHIELD fans. We're heading to space earlier than expected.
For most of the day on Saturday, Marvel was hyping up a special Agents of SHIELD announcement set to be made on Sunday. The Marvel Entertainment Twitter account shared, "Something's coming," accompanied by a 10-second motion poster of the series' cast. Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Phil Coulson on Agents of SHIELD, retweeted that post with the caption, "Thanks for waiting. And for being such a classy coven of clandestine BAMFs. We got something for you. #Tomorrow #AgentsofSHIELD."
However, not long after Gregg sent that tweet out to his nearly 700,000 followers, he decided to deliver the secret something: the first 17 minutes of the Agents of SHIELD season five premiere. "Why wait until tomorrow?" Gregg wrote, chalking up the early release to the fact that his co-star Natalia Cordova, who portrays Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez on the hit show, is celebrating her 35th birthday today (Saturday, November 25).
The footage, shown above, is an abridged version of the footage Marvel screened at New York Comic-Con early last month. (It cuts off a bit earlier than the NYCC clip did.) Despite the pushed-up stop time, the preview offers viewers plenty of information–like how Coulson ended up in space–but also raises a few more questions that set up the mysteries of the new season. Since Coulson and co. are in quite the unique pickle, the premiere is also filled with witty one-liners and plenty of humor that offset their tense circumstances.

In addition to Gregg as Coulson and Cordova as Rodriguez, Agents of SHIELD stars Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson/Quake, Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons, Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May, Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz, and Henry Simmons as Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie. The upcoming season will feature four new cast members: Jeff Ward as Deke, Eve Harlow as Tess, Coy Stewart as Flint, and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Grill.
The fifth season of Agents of SHIELD is set to premiere in a special two-hour event on December 1 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
