Final Trailer For Maze Runner: The Death Cure Unveiled
In the race to save the world from dying out completely, the Gladers must put their own lives on the line one last time.
A week after releasing an eerie poster for Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third installment in the Maze Runner series that adapts author James Dashner's trilogy of young adult novels, 20th Century Fox lifted the veil off the final trailer for the movie.
The footage centers around Dylan O'Brien's Thomas and his band of Gladers from the previous two pics as they begin their most dangerous journey yet. Opening on a heart-stopping sequence that sees Thomas edging out of a moving SUV and latching a hook onto the back of a speeding train, the footage sets a Mad Max-style tone that will, fingers crossed, carry over to the final cut of the film.
Military men then drop down from the sky, threatening to kill Thomas–or, at the very least, shoot him down from the top of the train. It's only when an aircraft lifts the crew up, carriage and all, that they head off to their destination: the Last City, a labyrinth controlled by the World in Catastrophe: Killzone Department (WCKD).
"If we find a cure, that's the only way all this was worth it," Kaya Scodelario's Teresa, who turned against the Gladers in the second movie, says. Immediately after, the trailer shows Ki Hong Lee's Minho, who was taken by WCKD, receiving some kind of electro-shock therapy, making Teresa's betrayal all the more bitter.
"There's no guarantee we make it back from this," Thomas admits, to which Thomas Brodie-Sangster's Newt notes that they started their mission together, and they should stick by one another to finish it the same way.
We're then treated to high-octane shots of shoot-outs and explosions, the Gladers free-falling from a broken window, and a tense closing tease that hints Thomas may have to make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good.
Alongside its top-liners, Maze Runner: The Death Cure starsDexter Darden as Frypan, Nathalie Emmanuel as Harriet, Giancarlo Esposito as Jorge, Aidan Gillen as Janson, Walton Goggins as Lawrence, Jacob Lofland as Aris, Barry Pepper as Vince, Will Poulter as Gally, Rosa Salazar as Brenda, and Patricia Clarkson as Ava Paige.
Here's the film's full synopsis: "In the epic finale to the Maze Runner saga, Thomas leads his group of escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions the Gladers have been asking since they first arrived in the maze."
Directed by Wes Ball with a screenplay by T.S. Nowlin, Maze Runner: The Death Cure is set for a January 26, 2018 debut.
