Sicario 2: Soldado Trailer Has No Rules This Time
Sicario is making the shift from a prestige dramatic thriller to a full-on franchise.
Columbia released the first trailer for Sicario 2: Soldado, and things are very different the second time around. Josh Brolin told Collider it's "more severe" and "much bigger" than the Oscar-nominated original, and screenwriter Taylor Sheridan said it makes Sicario "look like a comedy."
Brolin is back and C.I.A. agent Matt Graver along with Benicio Del Toro as his "man on fire" Alejandro. While the first movie centered on the recruitment of Emily Blunt's character, she's not in the picture this time around. Instead, we'll get to see what Graver and Alejandro are capable of with no supervision.
In Soldado, the drug cartels have started trafficking terrorists across the U.S.-Mexico border, and Graver's bosses, including one played by Catherine Keener, ask him to step in. We learned in the first movie that Alejandro is looking for revenge against the people who killed his family, and now he's conflicted when a new assignment involves the daughter of a drug lord (Isabella Moner).
The sequel will look a little different, however, as Sicario director Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and cinematographer Roger Deakins aren't involved. Instead, Stefano Sollima (Suburra) helms.
Sicario 2: Soldado is expected to hit theaters June 29, 2018.
