What Is Andor's Disney+ Release Schedule?
Another heroic origin story unfolds in "Andor." The prequel to 2016's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was announced as part of Disney's then newly formed streaming service. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger provided a teaser in 2018 on what the series would offer subscribers (via Deadline). Now, viewers are getting a chance to see the formative period which cemented Cassian Andor as a legend in his own right.
Diego Luna — who portrayed the character in 'Rogue One' — returns as the central figure. For the actor, it was a welcome opportunity to change what fans know about Andor's past. "No, listen, things were not the way you imagined. They were this way. This had to happen for someone to become the person you know,” Luna told The Hollywood Reporter.
Little is known about the plot, but current information sets it five years before the events of "Rogue One." Andor's creator and writer Tony Gilroy steers clear of recent thematic arcs for this Star Wars series. Instead, his work looks to those characters who have been in the background as a Jedi or a Mandalorian's story transpires (via Variety). What's left is a set of previously unseen lives and one remarkable hero in the making. Now, it's time to finally see the results as Andor Season 1 comes to Disney+.
Andor begins with a three-episode debut
Star Wars fans and newcomers alike can get their first glimpse of Andor on September 21. The special premiere will give viewers not one but three episodes to explore, according to a release schedule published on Twitter. September 28 also introduces a fourth episode finishing out the month. While there's no official information on runtimes, some unverified leaks put the average between 40 and 50 minutes (via CBR). Initial critical reactions to the debut episodes have been overwhelmingly positive. Its adult approach to the material as well as an unflinching connection to real-world issues is garnering praise.
October sees the series add four more episodes to the service. Unless something changes, expect a new episode on October 5, 12, 19, and 26. It all builds up to the final four episodes that debut on November 2, 9, 16, and 23. The series finale — set on November 23 — is well placed for US Thanksgiving travelers seeking a diversion or fans settling down for holiday events. Viewers hoping to end this season with everything settled for Andor might be surprised to learn a second season is already planned out by Gilroy. It was also confirmed by actor Stellan Skarsgård in regard to his upcoming filming schedule.
"Andor," a Disney+ original series, premieres on the service on September 21 at 3:00 am EST/12:00 pm PST.
