The Return Of This OG Chicago Med Cast Member Could Mean Big Things For Season 8
Warning: This article contains spoilers for "Chicago Med" Season 8, Episode 1
Typically season finales are the episodes that pack a punch, but it was just the opposite on the Fall 2022 opener of "Chicago Med." One of the night's biggest surprises came in the shocking exit of Dr. Scott (Guy Lockard), who quit Med after Jo (Riley Voelkel) died in the ED. Despite the news of Dick Wolf superstars Jesse Lee Soffer and Kelli Giddish leaving "Chicago P.D." and "Law & Order: SVU," there were no rumblings of Lockard's exit. While it's still possible for his character to return later this season, Episode 1 seemed to really bid farewell to the former cop.
But nothing could prepare us for the return of an OG "Chicago Med" star in the Season 8 finale. The moment came in one of the episode's final scenes, and it looks like a once-famous "Chicago Med" couple might be resurrected.
April Sexton returns to Chicago Med
Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) goes to visit his father's grave at the end of the "Chicago Med" Season 8 premiere, and he's shocked to see his ex-girlfriend, April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), standing there paying her respects. She tells Ethan she would have come to the service but didn't know his dad had passed until she saw the obituary after the fact. April reveals she finished her nurse practitioner program and is living back in Chicago. Uh oh, Chi-hards, it's happening.
The chemistry between April and Ethan is still there; they look like they're longing for one another. After a brief catch-up, April asks Ethan, "You didn't get married or anything, did you?" After telling her no, he asks the same, and she reveals she's also single. We're sensing big things for Chexton in Season 8, as DaCosta's Fox series, "Our Kind of People," was canceled, leaving her schedule wide open for a return. The actress currently has no other projects in the works, so it looks like we might be welcoming back April Sexton to the ED. All felt her absence in Season 7, and we're happy to see her back.
