Slender Man Is Watching In Creepy First Trailer
People are disappearing in the first trailer for Screen Gems' upcoming horror film Slender Man. The movie focuses the creepy Internet creation, who has become a cult favorite through appearances in video games, short films, and stories.
The character of Slender Man was first created on the Something Awful forums in 2009 by Eric Knudsen. Since then, the spooky figure has weaseled his way into pop culture as an eerie watcher responsible for kidnapping and killing children. The character's notoriety increased in 2014 when two young teens attempted to murder their friend in order to join his cult.
The film, which will be the first feature based entirely on the character, follows a group of girls who search for the cause of a rash of recent disappearances in their town. The trailer is full of creepy music and imagery, warning against Slender Man as someone who "gets in your head." Although it doesn't reveal much about the specific plot of the film, it does show that things could get violent quickly.
Slender Man is directed by Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) based on a script from David Birke (13 Sins). Javier Botet, Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Jaz Sinclair, Annalise Basso, Kevin Chapman, and Alex Fitzalan star in the film, which will be released on May 18.
