Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters Trailer Reveals Humanity's Last Chance
You'll need to be fluent in Japanese to understand much of the trailer for Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, but even if you aren't, you'll probably be able to figure out what's going on.
Netflix released the final trailer for the upcoming anime feature a little more than a week before the movie debuts on the streaming service. The flick already premiered in Japan and it's the first animated Godzilla film in the history of the franchise. Set to the theme song "White Out" by J-pop singer Xai, the trailer is an explosion of sound, color, and, well, explosions.
Set 20,000 years from now, the movie centers on the premise that humans were forced to leave Earth in 2048 after decades of losing the war against Godzilla and other giant monsters. The survivors take a 20-year trip to another planet, but they soon learn its uninhabitable. As the conditions on their ship deteriorate, a young man named Haruo leads a movement to return to Earth and reclaim it from the monsters. But when they arrive back home, it's the distant future and the planet's ecosystem has evolved with Godzilla firmly atop the food chain.
The voice cast includes Mamoru Miyano, Takashiro Sakurai, Kana Hanazawa, Tomokazu Sugita, Yuki Kaji, and Junichi Suwabe, and the movie part of a big push by Netflix to bring more anime to the service. It arguably doesn't get much bigger than Godzilla.
Watch for the flick on Jan. 17.
