John Cena Is Out To Ruin Prom Night In Blockers Trailer
John Cena is flexing his comedy muscle again—and from the looks of this trailer, he's getting stronger than ever.
From director Kay Cannon, a producer and writer of 30 Rock who also wrote the Pitch Perfect series, Blockers tells the story of a well-meaning dad freaking out about his daughters' burgeoning adulthood. When he and the girls' mother (Leslie Mann) hear about the kids' plan to lose their virginity on prom night, they set out on a mission to ruin the evening by any means necessary.
The trailer is a great example of how far Cena's come as a comedic actor, going from coy cameo spots to a being a legitimate leading man, with his reaction faces looking like they'll be worth the price of admission alone. Combine that with a smart script—well, as smart as a script could be while featuring competitive butt chugging—and this looks like it might be a real winner.
Cena recently voiced the main character in the animated Ferdinand, and is also set to appear in the upcoming Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee. Along with Kevin Hart, he's also rumored to be involved in a comedy reboot of Knight Rider.
Blockers is the debut feature of Cannon's, and was written by Brian Kehoe, Jim Kehoe, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. In addition to Cena and Mann in the lead roles, the movie also stars Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Newton, Sarayu Blue, Gideon Adlon, Ramona Young, and Geraldine Viswanathan. The movie is slated for release just in time for prom season on April 6. Check out the trailer up above.
