Star Trek Fans Are Losing Their Minds Over Picard Baddie Vadic
During this year's New York Comic-Con, "Star Trek" fans were treated to a thrilling new teaser trailer for the third and final season of "Star Trek: Picard."
The Paramount+ series follows the former Starfleet Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," as he's pulled out of retirement to lead more harrowing missions that desperately require his assistance.
The new trailer thrilled fans by showing additional footage of the return of several members of the Starfleet crew that originally piloted the USS Enterprise, which was announced back in April 2022. Aside from seeing Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Worf (Michael Dorn), and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), fans saw the return of villains Professor Moriarty (Daniel Davis), and Lore (Brent Spiner).
In addition, there's one more aspect of the trailer that's gaining a lot of traction from Twitter. Fans on the social media website are particularly excited about the main antagonist Vadic, played by Amanda Plummer.
In the new trailer out of NYCC 2022, we are introduced to this season's big bad and she's quite a terrifying one. After seemingly putting the pieces together, Picard announces they must flee before an imposing ship enters the frame. Turning around in her chair in such a villainous manner, Vadic makes her entrance, taunts Picard, and immediately opens fire. We later learn that she has a vendetta against Picard and the Enterprise crew and she's absolutely hellbent on exacting her revenge.
Amanda Plummer as Vadic is wowing fans
One fan @ZaneBrumley mentioned that their interest was piqued mostly by Vadic, despite the other revelations in the trailer, saying, "Of all of the #StarTrekPicard reveals in the latest trailer, the one that has me most intrigued is the new villain, Vadic. I'm very, very intrigued." Replies to their tweets indicated a shared curiosity about Vadic's motivations.
Other fans were excited to see that Vadic would be played by the award-winning actor Amanda Plummer, who's most known for "Joe Versus the Volcano," "Pulp Fiction," and more recently, "Hunger Games: Catching Fire." "Trek" fan @dgct2 has already professed their love for the character by tweeting, "Vadic is terrifying! I love her. Amanda Plummer is going to rock this role."
Long-time "Star Trek" fans will remember that Plummer's father, the late Christopher Plummer, was also a "Star Trek" alumni, having played General Chang in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country." In the trailer, Vadic's ultimate endgame, following the complete destruction of Picard, was to eliminate the United Federation of Planets. Similarly, Chang exhibited hatred for the Federation but plotted against them using a different, less straightforward path.
Twitter fan @dsrbroadway noticed the connection, exclaiming, "Amanda Plummer is amazing, she looks like she's going to be amazing here, and she certainly is a great connection to Trek history..."
Eagle-eyed Twitter user @Dewi_Evans noticed that General Chang and Vadic's costumes bear a passing resemblance as both wear black leather and raised shoulder pads, saying "Just wanna point out the similarities in costuming between General Chang (Christopher Plummer) and Vadic (Amanda Plummer) in the new #picard trailer."
