Disney's Live-Action Aladdin Wraps Filming

It won't be long before we're hopping aboard a magic carpet and entering a whole new world, as Disney has just wrapped filming on its hotly anticipated live-action Aladdin film.

Actor Mena Massoud, who takes on the role of the titular ruffian-turned-royal, confirmed the "done and dusted" status of production. "That's a wrap on Aladdin! It's been an incredible journey and I can't wait for you to see it summer 2019!" Massoud wrote on Twitter, accompanying a black and white photo of himself holding an enormous clapperboard. In the background of the picture, you can spot rows of green screens — a hint that post-production will take quite some time to complete. (Hey, it's not easy getting that tapestry to take flight!)

The movie's leading lady Naomi Scott, who plays the posh yet powerful Princess Jasmine, also took to social media to revel in the good news. "Wrap day today. What an incredible six months. I can honestly say I've enjoyed every second. Love to my cast and crew, it's been a pleasure," she tweeted in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 24. Later that same day, Scott followed up with a simple statement that her job was officially done: "And that's a wrap."

By all accounts, it's sounds like their experience shooting the movie was a shining, shimmering, splendid one. (Alright, we'll cool it with the Aladdin puns now.)

Joining the two young actors for the new take on the animated classic are a few familiar faces: Will Smith as Genie, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as Jasmine's father The Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Jasmine's handmaiden Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, and Numan Acar as Jafar's right-hand man Hakim.

Directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes) from a script by John August (Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), the live-action Aladdin movie will soar into theaters on May 24, 2019.
