Fantasy And Reality Become One In I Kill Giants Trailer
"I find giants. I hunt giants. I kill giants."
The first full trailer for I Kill Giants, the film adaptation of Joe Kelly and J.M. Ken Niimura's popular 2008 graphic novel, dropped on Thursday, giving hopefuls a taste of what the in-living-color take on the story will entail.
The Conjuring 2 actress Madison Wolfe leads the charge as Barbara Thorson, a trouble young teen who hides a secret identity beneath her stoic, bunny ears-wearing shell. Barbara is a giant slayer — and a gifted one at that — and finds release from the hardships of her home life in the magical world where she battles and bests the beasts. As fantasy and reality blend together, the lines between the two becoming increasingly indistinguishable, Barbara worries if she's the only one who can see the monsters lurking about her hometown. Her school counselor (Zoe Saladana), on the other hand, is concerned that Barbara is experiencing dangerous delusions that will drive her to harm those she loves most, including her older sister (Imogen Poots) and her new friend Sophia (Sydney Wade).
The trailer opens a tiny crack in this grim narrative, inviting viewers to question Barbara's thoughts and actions and decide for themselves if they belief they're real. Check it out above.
I Kill Giants debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, where it received positive buzz. It's not hard to imagine, considering Oscar-winning director Anders Water (Helium) helmed the flick. Graphical novel author Kelly wrote the screenplay for I Kill Giants as well, indicating that the adaptation will likely be a faithful one.
Here's the synopsis for the pic: "Barbara Thorson (Madison Wolfe) is a teenage girl who escapes the realities of school and a troubled family life by retreating into her magical world of fighting evil giants. With the help of her new friend Sophia (Sydney Wade) and her school counselor (Zoe Saldana), Barbara learns to face her fears and battle the giants that threaten her world."
I Kill Giants is scheduled for release in theaters, on demand, and on Digital HD on March 23.
