Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania Has Fans Loving Hope's Comics-Accurate Costume Update
The exciting first official trailer for "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania" is here. From what we can tell, it will be the daughter of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Cassie, who initiates the chaos that ensues during the film. There has notably been a change in actresses for the role as well (via Deadline), with "Big Little Lies" actor Kathryn Newton replacing Emma Fuhrmann, who played the character during "Avengers: Endgame."
Cassie appears to have helped create a device that will send out a signal to the Quantum Realm for anyone who might need help from Scott, Hope (Evangeline Lilly), Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), and Hank (Michael Douglas). However, despite Janet's quick action to turn it off, the whole family is sucked into the Quantum Realm almost instantly — coming face-to-face with Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).
Scott and Hope have gone through a lot leading up to the events of "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania," and they only reunited after Hope was blipped and Scott was trapped in the Quantum Realm. Based on the two attending what looks like a red carpet event in the trailer, they seem to be public about their romance. Additionally, Scott looks about the same throughout the trailer as we've seen in the past, but Hope has a new hairstyle and one more major update that fans quickly caught.
Hope's new suit is straight out of Marvel Comics
After the group gets pulled into the Quantum Realm during the trailer for "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania," Hope can be seen wearing her Wasp suit, but it looks a little different from what fans might remember. In her earlier appearances suited up alongside Scott or The Avengers, Hope's outfit featured a blue base with gray padding and a red outline near the chest, arms, and shoulders. This time around, Hope's suit features an update that renders it almost completely yellow and black, similar to the same outfit that the Wasp (who is Janet Van Dyne in the comics, rather than Hope) wears in the source material. Fans are ecstatic about this update to Hope's character, with u/EternalsTalks posting the side-by-side comparison of the character from Marvel Comics and the MCU on Twitter to show the accuracy. "The Glow up on the Wasp suit I'm loving the comic book accuracy," they noted in the caption.
Other fans also replied with their love for the change. U/Arthur65381575 said, "I love it too." U/DiegoSolano even noted that they didn't mind the original costume from films prior, but the comics-accurate suit for The Wasp is "a major improvement." However, despite their love for the uniform, some fans in the comics are upset that Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet isn't the one wearing it, as her character is The Wasp in Marvel Comics' main continuity. "It would be accurate if Michelle Pfeiffer is wearing it," said u/ScottyShapiro.
"Ant-Man: and The Wasp: Quantumania" hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
