Rafe Spall Ventures Into A Haunted Forest In The Ritual Trailer
Netflix has released the terrifying first trailer for their upcoming horror film The Ritual. The movie stars Rafe Spall, Robert James-Collier, Arsher Ali, and Sam Troughton as four old college friends who get back together after the tragic death of their best friend.
The group sets out for a hike through the Scandanavian wilderness, but an attempt to take a shortcut after one of them falls and injures his ankle leads them off the beaten path and into the mysterious forests of Norse legend, where an ancient evil stalks them at every turn.
"Is it me, or is it really quiet in here?" one of the friends asks, shortly before they start to encounter eerie warning signs, including a gutted animal and cryptic symbols carved into the bark of nearby trees. When they decide to make camp overnight, things quickly go wrong as the group experiences a terrifying sequence of events.
However, when they wake up in the morning, they debate whether or not what they went through was real. "It was a nightmare," one of them says."We got spooked and we had bad dreams." However, things continue to go off the rails, leading to further divisions within the group. "We need to be working together, man," one says.
"Your darkest dreams await you," teases the trailer, before launching into a smash cut of the some of the film's scariest moments. Paul Reid also stars in The Ritual, which was directed by David Bruckner (The Signal) based on a script from Joe Barton (Humans). The movie, an adaptation of Adam Nevill's 2011 novel of the same name, hits Netflix on Feb. 9.
