Star Wars Fans Are Tearing Up Over Rex And Ahsoka's Dynamic In Tales Of The Jedi
Warning: This article contains spoilers for "Tales of the Jedi."
"Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi" dropped on Disney+ today, giving fans a better look at two fan-favorite characters, Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano. The six-episode first season focuses on the two Jedi as they go down drastically different paths of the Force, one succumbing to the Dark Side while the other becomes a symbol of hope for the Light.
Dooku and Ahsoka's journeys get three episodes each. In Dooku's case, his episodes show the Jedi Master's transformation into SIth Lord under the guidance of Darth Sidious, a topic discussed previously but never shown on-screen. Ahsoka's portion of the show reveals her origins before expanding on her actions following "Revenge of the Sith," but before "Star Wars: Rebels." Given the time periods covered by the series, many popular characters make appearances, including Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), Yaddle (Bryce Dallas Howard), and Captain Rex (Dee Bradley Baker).
Anyone who keeps up with Star Wars Animation — if you haven't, you're severely missing out – knows that Ahsoka and Captain Rex formed a special bond serving in The Clone Wars together. "Tales of the Jedi" expands on that relationship in Episode 5, "Practice Makes Perfect." The episode features Anakin training a young Ahsoka, using a firing squad of clones to do so. Each time the clones knock out Ahsoka, we get a little time jump to a more experienced version of the young Jedi. Eventually, we get to the heartbreaking moment in "The Clone Wars," where Ahsoka and Rex take on the entire 501st Legion before the episode ends.
Following the premiere of "Tales of the Jedi," Twitter exploded with "Star Wars" fans who couldn't hold back their emotions regarding Ahsoka and Rex.
Tales of the Jedi pulled at Star Wars fans' heartstrings once again
As mentioned above, Ahsoka and Rex's relationship is put on display in Episode 5, titled "Practice Makes Perfect." While the training method used by Anakin is unorthodox and dangerous, it challenges Ahsoka more than what Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda put her through. The training becomes a regular occurrence in Ahsoka's life, and we see an older Ahsoka, still training under Anakin, using the method. Although she gets more experienced each time she participates in the exercise, Captain Rex never ceases to worry about Ahsoka, tugging at "Star Wars" fans' hearts.
Reactions to Ahsoka and Rex's relationship blew up on Twitter, and they're saying what every fan is thinking. @Padawanisabelle couldn't handle Rex being concerned for Ahsoka's health, saying, "Rex was genuinely so nervous for Ahsoka during her training. I'm unwell." Others, like @Giselleb1234, reflected on how long it's been since fans have seen them together. "Rex bending down to talk to Ahsoka," they wrote. "I've missed their interactions so much."
Other "Star Wars" fans focused on the symbolism included throughout "Tales of the Jedi" by mastermind Dave Filoni. "Ahsoka training in the same place she was imprisoned and the first clone trooper to tag her being Jesse and then Rex tagging her and cutting to Ahsoka and Rex facing Jesse during Order 66," @Clonehumor noted. "Dave Filoni is hitting us with all the feels."
It's safe to say "Star Wars" fans love seeing Ahsoka and Rex together again. The duo formed a brother-and-sister-like bond throughout "The Clone Wars," serving together as heads of the 332nd Company within the 501st Legion. The pair would eventually fight against their former comrades during the events of Order 66.
"Tales of the Jedi" is now streaming.
