The Cloverfield Paradox Hits Netflix Tonight, Watch The Teaser
After years of secrecy and rumors, we finally have our first look at The Cloverfield Paradox, the third installment in the Cloverfield series. And we're getting it much sooner than we thought.
As expected, Netflix released a trailer for the movie during the Super Bowl after acquiring the flick produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. Although it's set in the same universe as 2008's Cloverfield and 2016's 10 Cloverfield Lane, it'll take the story far from Earth. The movie will be available on Netflix right after the Super Bowl.
Directed by Julius Onah, little was known about the flick until the trailer dropped. Like 10 Cloverfield Lane, the film was originally meant to be a self-contained movie before it was adapted into a Cloverfield sequel.
"It was written before 10 Cloverfield Lane and the expanded Cloverfield universe even existed as a thing," Onah told Collider. "It definitely existed as its own science-fiction. And then after years of, you know how scripts kind of hang around — people like them but for whatever reason they decided to make it and then suddenly everything fell into place with J.J. [Abrams], Bad Robot, and Paramount. I don't know exactly when it became a Cloverfield movie, but I suspect in this current market where it's just harder and harder to market an original movie of any kind, a science-fiction movie in particular, but I think everyone just knew if it fits–and it does–into that Cloverfield world, it should, and it can only help."
Up until last week, everyone thought The Cloverfield Paradox (which was originally going to be called God Particle) would get a theatrical release, but that was before Netflix stepped in.
The cast includes David Oyelowo (Selma), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle), Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Daniel Brühl (Captain America: Civil War), and Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids).
