Millie Bobby Brown Admits There's One English Accent She Can't Pull Off

Millie Bobby Brown's most famous role — the psychic Eleven on the hit Netflix series "Stranger Things" – is a young, powerful American teen. But Brown was actually born in Spain to British parents (via Allure Magazine). The actress moved several times in childhood before relocating to Orlando, Florida, at age 8. This has allowed her to move back and forth easily between British and American accents (via Allure).

Brown's accent work also means she's perfectly convincing in the "Enola Holmes" films as the British title character, the teenage sister of famed detective Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill). In the first movie, Enola visits her brother while trying to find her missing mother, Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter). The new sequel, "Enola Holmes 2," features the character solving a whole new mystery. 

Brown explained in an interview with Drew Barrymore that she has no problem with most Anglo accents, but runs into trouble with one in particular.

When Millie Bobby Brown appeared on "The Drew Barrymore Show," Barrymore asked the younger actress if there was an accent she felt she couldn't pull off.

Brown was able to change her voice quickly and easily, showing off an Australian accent and explaining that it "goes really far back in your throat." As Barrymore watched, astonished, Brown also demonstrated her British accent, then how her American voice is rooted "all in the mouth, very easy-going." However, Brown did tell Barrymore, "I get intimidated with Sutton English accents." She compared the diction, more common with British farmers, to her father's own voice. Brown admitted it was the one accent she felt she couldn't get right. "You caught me," she said jokingly.

Still, Brown visibly and audibly has no problem switching between accents without even pausing. If she can keep that level of talent in her future roles, hopefully, she'll have an incredible career ahead of her.
