Anne Hathaway Joins Thriller The Last Thing He Wanted
Anne Hathaway is teaming up with Mudbound director Dee Rees for her next movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway is in talks to play a Washington Post journalist who falls into the dangerous world of arms dealing in Rees' upcoming feature The Last Thing He Wanted.
Marco Villalobos wrote the screenplay for the film, which is based on the bestselling 1996 Joan Didion novel. The movie is described as being "a thrilling story of one woman, alone and unrelenting in a race against time." The film will be produced by Dallas Buyers Club's Cassian Elwes, who optioned the book from Didion. The Fyzz Facility, the company behind 47 Meters Down, will assist with developing the film.
Rees' Netflix film Mudbound earned four Oscar nominations, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Rees and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for Mary J. Blige. Rees also earned an Image Award nomination for Outstanding Director in a Motion Picture and picked up a Writers Guild of America nomination for Adapted Screenplay. Rees has also directed the HBO film Bessie and episodes of Empire and Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams.
Hathaway won an Academy Award for her performance in 2012's Les Miserables. She also holds an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination for Rachel Getting Married, as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Love and Other Drugs. The actress' other upcoming roles include a part in the ensemble heist film Ocean's 8 and a starring role in Sony's big screen Barbie comedy.
