Lost In Space Remake Teaser Reveals The New Robinson Family
Unfortunately, your phone's GPS probably won't do much good in outer space, not even in the future.
Netflix released the first look at the upcoming remake of Irwin Allen's classic sci-fi series Lost in Space, and it introduces us to a new version of the Robinson family while offering up a premiere date for the first season.
According to Netflix, the new Lost in Space takes place 30 years in the future when space colonization is now a real thing. The Robinsons are among those selected to travel to another world to make a better life for themselves, and the teaser provides a glimpse at the moments before they leave. But somewhere along the way, they get thrown light-years off course and must work together to survive.
Toby Stephens (Black Sails) stars as expedition commander John Robinson; Molly Parker (House of Cards) plays Maureen Robinson, a brilliant aerospace engineer; Taylor Russell (Falling Skies), Minda Sundwall (Maggie's Plan) and Maxwell Jenkins (Sense8) portray Judy, Penny and Will Robinson, respectively; Parker Posey (Superman Returns) plays a female version of the manipulative Dr. Smith; and Ignacio Serricchio (The Wedding Ringer) co-stars as Don West, a blue-collar contractor who never intended to join the colony.
The original series ran for 83 episodes between 1965 and 1968. In 1998, New Line released a movie update starring William Hurt, Gary Oldman, Matt LeBlanc and Heather Graham. Five years later, the WB commissioned John Woo to direct a pilot for a new series, but didn't greenlight the show.
The Netflix take on Lost in Space, which has already been made available for astronauts to watch on the International Space Station, will premiere April 13.
