Rick & Morty Released The Cold Open For Season 6 Episode 7 And Fans Are Here For It
The Emmy-winning series "Rick and Morty" is getting fans pumped up for new episodes, and this side-splitting cold open scene showcased in the preview has fans making some serious noise, especially in the comments.
Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland) and his grandson Morty Smith (Justin Roiland) may have done some pretty terrible things throughout the show, but that dark side of the two characters hasn't stopped fans from continuing to watch and get excited about new episodes. The sixth season has arguably been a wild ride, with the villainous Rick Prime making his presence known as one of the most formidable foes the titular pair have ever gone up against. Then the show took a break on October 9, 2022, and fans were forced to wait for new entries. Luckily, to tide over fans until the show returns on November 20, 2022, the beginning of the next chapter has been unleashed, and it's crazy.
In the cold open for Season 6, Episode 7 (via YouTube), Rick and Morty are trapped in a "previously on" loop featuring some wild stories that happened on the hiatus, like Summer Smith (Spencer Grammer) getting pregnant, Jerry Smith (Chris Parnell) dying from bee stings, and Beth Smith (Sarah Chalke) being executed for allegedly releasing the bees that killed her husband. The entire ordeal turns out to be orchestrated by Previous Leon, and to counteract his toxins, Morty says, "Next Time on Rick and Morty," making the lettered jacket bug creature appear. The two grab hold of him and are dragged on a wild ride through the opening credits. The hilarious video has generated quite a stir with viewers who weren't afraid to voice their opinions beneath the clip.
Fans can't stop gushing over the gut-busting cold opener
The duo's escapades in the comical cold opener appear to be a big hit with fans, as many users on YouTube had excellent things to say. One individual wrote, "This is the best way any show has ever come back from a hiatus!!" and another posted, "Only Rick and Morty would come up with something like this! Good stuff, great way to come back after hiatus." And it didn't stop there, with other fans offering high praise with sentiments including "I'm so hyped!!," "This was absolutely genius," and "Rick and Morty never disappoint. Things like this made the series so fresh and funny." Even specific parts of the side-splitting preview got some attention, with one person pointing out, "During the part where they were flying through the intro, I could not stop laughing," and another user highlighted "I found it hilarious how Morty sees himself melting as butter, and he goes 'oh why am I butter?'"
There is no denying "Rick and Morty" has gotten everyone's attention with this maneuver, and it seems pretty safe to assume that people will want to see what happens next. When asked if Rick Prime would return, showrunner Scott Marder told Comicbook.com, "I can't say when, but you'll definitely see him again." There was rarely a dull moment in the show's sixth season run, which has already earned impressive scores on Rotten Tomatoes – in fact, the first episode was the most-watched show amongst young viewers when it was released (via The Futon Critic). It will be fascinating to see how the next entries are received and what the future holds for Rick and Morty in the final episodes of Season 6.
