Dunkirk Wins Oscars For Outstanding Sound Editing, Sound Mixing

Dunkirk has taken home its first Oscars. The Christopher Nolan war drama won Outstanding Sound Editing and Outstanding Sound Mixing at the 90th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night. The award for Sound Editing went to Richard King and Alex Gibson, while the award for Sound Mixing went to Gregg Landaker, Gary A. Rizzo, and Mark Weingarten.

Dunkirk has eight total nominations, including Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Achievement in Directing for Nolan, and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score) for Hans Zimmer. The movie, which also picked up the trophy for Best Editing at the Oscars, has already taken home a slew of other awards this season, including three Golden Globe nominations and a BAFTA for Best Sound.

Dunkirk hit theaters in July of 2017 to positive reviews from critics. (The movie currently sits at a 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.) The film was also a box office success, earning $525.5 million worldwide, including $188.3 million domestic. (via Box Office Mojo) The movie followed the story of the 1940 Battle of Dunkirk. 

Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy, Harry Styles, Tom Glynn-Carney, Aneurin Barnard, James D'Arcy, and Tom Hardy starred in Dunkirk, which Nolan also penned the script for. The movie, which carried a $100 million production budget, was distributed by Warner Bros.
