Lakeith Stanfield Gets Surreal In Sorry To Bother You Trailer

Even in an alternate version of present day, it's tough to make a living.

Annapurna Pictures released a trailer for Sorry to Bother You, the directorial debut of musician Boots Riley, and it just might be the craziest thing you see today.

Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Death Note) stars as Cassius Green, a man who lives in what's described as an alternate version of modern-day Oakland. Desperate for money, he takes a job as a telemarketer, but he has little luck until he discovers a "magical key to professional success." Turns out the key is to use his "white voice" when talking to people, and it reveals a "macabre secret" of his corporate bosses.

The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and Entertainment Weekly called it "the most outlandishly surreal, straight-up WTF movie at this year's festival, hands down."

Riley, who wrote and directed the flick, is best known as a rapper and producer with The Coup and Street Sweeper Social Club. Lots of his lyrics are focused on the inequalities between the working class and the wealthy elite, and it looks like Sorry to Bother You will fit neatly within his oeuvre.

Sorry to Bother You also stars Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name), Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Omari Hardwick (Kick-Ass), and Jermaine Fowler (Friends of the People). Look for it in theaters on July 6.
