James Gunn Directly Addresses Those Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Lady Gaga Rumors
Marvel Studios somehow manages to always be in the headlines, even when they're in the midst of a hiatus in their release schedule. The studio released "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" last month, which is still killing it at the box office, but fans have a bit of a wait ahead of them until their next movie. With the turn of the year, the MCU enters Phase 5, and with it comes the end of one of Marvel's most popular trilogies — "Guardians of the Galaxy."
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" promises to be an emotional rollercoaster as the team goes on their final journey together. Everyone's favorite space-based characters return, including Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel). Although director James Gunn has confirmed the movie is the finale of his story, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" will feature the introduction of many new Marvel characters. Will Poulter finally brings Adam Warlock to the MCU, Chukwudi Iwuji plays the villainous High Evolutionary, and Maria Bakalova returns as Cosmo the Spacedog.
Another MCU newcomer in the movie is Lylla, an adorable otter that clearly has a previous relationship with Rocket. The two share a hug in the trailer as the film prepares to dive more into the loud-mouthed raccoon's backstory. After Marvel Studios released the trailer, rumors swirled that Golden Globe-winning actress Lady Gaga voiced the character, but Gunn is now setting the record straight.
It's not time for Lady Gaga's MCU debut
We're not sure where the rumors started, but it looks like Lady Gaga will not be voicing Lylla in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." Director James Gunn, who's always been vocal in answering fan questions, replied to a comment on his Instagram post, confirming the actress is not the voice of the adorable otter. A fan asked the filmmaker, "Tell us who voices Lylla please! It starts with Ga and ends with Ga? Come on!" to which he simply replied, "It does not." While it would have been special to get a mini "A Star is Born" reunion in "Guardians 3," with Bradley Cooper and Gaga playing alongside one another, it seems that it was never more than a rumor. However, Gaga one day joining the MCU looks inevitable, as is the case with every A-list Hollywood star. Until then, comic book fans will have to be content with her role as Harley Quinn in "Joker: Folie à Deux."
Not only is "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" the finale for this iteration of the Guardians team, but it's also the last time fans will see Gunn in the MCU, at least for now. Speaking to ET Online, the director said emotions were at an all-time high on set, knowing that his time with Marvel was coming close. Gunn filmed "Guardians Vol. 3" and "The Holiday Special" at the same time, and he said the days shooting the latter were akin to snow days after the emotional and serious tone of filming the movie. He also noted that "The Holiday Special" introduced his favorite MCU character, so it'll be interesting to see what he does with the heroes and villains coming in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
