Yellowstone Fans Are Starting To Warm Up To Clara
The following article contains general spoilers for "Yellowstone" Season 5.
Secretary Clara Brewer (Lilli Kay) is in one heck of a tough position in "Yellowstone." Her boss, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is now the governor of Montana, which means she is often stuck smoothing the pathway between his gruff cowboy ways and the needs and wants of the people at large. That can be quite tricky, as John is not a natural politician, so this often turns into a battle between his instincts and her cool, collected judgment. More often than not, the terminally stubborn John wins the day and sometimes does far worse damage to his own public image than any enemy would do. But she knows how to make him a favorite with his constituents, and her calm guidance has been invaluable to John's career.
It's taken a while for "Yellowstone" fans to warm up to Clara after her introduction in Season 5's first episode. After all, her tendency toward being formal puts up a layer between herself and the audience. But the events of "Watch 'Em Ride Away" had audience members posting on Reddit singing a different tune about Clara and her behavior.
Fans give Clara credit for making John's administration work
Over on the "Yellowstone" subreddit, a number of fans turned up to praise Clara in a thread dedicated to positive discussion of "Watch 'Em Ride Away." While many of those responding note the character's pragmatic nature, they still expressed admiration for her devotion to John and for doing her job the right way.
"I don't know why, she's really dry and doesn't have a huge role, but I like her," u/Green-Independent951 noted. It seems they're not alone in liking Clara but not quite understanding why they do. u/EmaEdward pointed out her stalwart ability to do her job in the wake of John's multiple foibles. "John has no idea what he's doing as governor and she never makes him feel that way. She always just takes what he gives her and makes it work," they added. "She never complains or acts like exasperated or annoyed. She's a boss."
Several fans are hoping that she'll get to do a greater number of things on the show, and some, including u/Affectionate-Cat-558, chalk up her toughness to her life in the country. Hopefully, audiences will indeed get to see more of her as Season 5 progresses.
