The Unfilmed Team Iron Man Scene For Avengers: Endgame Is Powerful
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is chock full of some incredible moments as it solidifies itself in cinematic history. Whether it's the Avengers assembling against Loki and the Chitauri, Captain America's legendary elevator fight scene, or T'Challa's coronation, there's a clear stand-out moment to suit any fan. However, the two movies with arguably the most iconic moments are "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Endgame."
For ten years, Marvel Studios built towards one thing, the arrival of Thanos. They first teased the legendary villain at the end of 2012's "The Avengers," but six years and twelve movies later, it paid off. The culmination of The Infinity Saga did not disappoint, as the studio's one-two-punch became two of the highest-grossing films of all time, with "Endgame" becoming the only movie to challenge "Avatar" for the top spot.
With "Endgame," the studio took comic book movies to a place they'd never been before. The unbelievable ensemble brought every established superhero together in a fight to save the universe from Thanos and his army. The movie included so many memorable moments for the fans, including Captain America finally saying his iconic line, Iron Man using the Infinity Gauntlet, and Cap standing his ground against Thanos with the help of Mjolnir. However, there was another Iron Man-focused scene that didn't make it through production.
Team Iron Man nearly reunited one last time
The look at the unfilmed scene comes from Ryan Meinerding, Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios. The art shows an early concept design from "Avengers: Endgame," featuring Iron Man, Spider-Man, War Machine, and Rescue flying into battle together. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo planned to include the moment in the movie's final battle after the Avengers resurrected all the heroes. It's unclear why they never filmed the scene, but it would have given Team Iron Man one last moment together before Tony Stark's legendary sacrifice. It may be for the best the moment didn't make it to the big screen, because we can't even begin to imagine the emotion behind Iron Man's death if we saw him fight alongside the heroes he brought into the MCU.
Maybe the scene will one day see its fruition on the big screen. Marvel Studios has the massive job of topping the spectacle of "Avengers: Endgame" with "Avengers: Secret Wars," and bringing back Iron Man would certainly help with that. With the multiverse being the focus leading up to "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" and "Secret Wars," it wouldn't take much to bring the character back through a multiversal variant. Seeing Robert Downey Jr. fighting alongside Team Iron Man is one way to make the moment more emotional than it could have been in "Endgame." The actor recently told Deadline there are many things he misses from his time in the MCU, so it would probably only take a massive check from Marvel Studios to bring him back for one last time.
