Scream 6 Teaser Trailer Calls Back To Samara Weaving's Character In Ready Or Not

The first preview for "Scream 6" has been released, and within the tense Big Apple-set teaser, some fans noticed an interesting reference to the 2019 movie "Ready or Not" starring Samara Weaving.

Despite how many times a killer in a Ghostface mask gets taken out, the "Scream" franchise seems to never stay dead for too long. The franchise's sixth iteration is going to be taking its stars out of Woodsboro and to New York City, where the survivors of 2022's "Scream" have relocated in an effort to move on from their traumatic stab-happy encounters with masked murderers. The stakes have apparently never been higher as "Scream 6" promises to be the bloodiest installment the series of films has ever seen, and even returning star Jenna Ortega has verified that it's going to be a splatter fest this time around.

The "Wednesday" star returns to the fold along with Jasmin Savoy Brown, Melissa Barerrea, Mason Gooding, and Courteney Cox. Also returning to the mix is "Scream 4" star Hayden Panettiere. But Neve Campbell, who plays Sidney Prescott, will not be in the flick. While the film may be missing a key legacy character, some fans have noticed that the trailer does include a brief glimpse of a certain armed and ready bride.

The ammo-toting bride from Ready or Not makes an appearance in the Scream 6 trailer

Some eagle-eyed fans noticed that in the very beginning of the "Scream 6" trailer, there is a shot of a woman walking down the subway stairs wearing a wedding dress and a bandoleer of rounds. Among the many users on Twitter who noticed was @LEMONSQU4RES, who pointed out that "this girl in the new scream 6 teaser is dressed as samara weaving in ready or not." Another was apparently so surprised they Tweeted, "GRACE WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"

Like the 2022 "Scream" revival, "Scream 6" is being helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directorial duo behind ... "Ready or Not." And that's not where the meta callbacks end. Samara Weaving, who starred as the unlucky bride Grace in "Ready or Not," will also have a role in "Scream 6." This bold self-reference seems in line with what Gillett has said about the vision they have for the upcoming entry in the storied horror franchise. "This movie has to be willing to risk it all in order to subvert all of those expectations," Gillett told Empire. "And we're so far down the rabbit hole of Scream movies, that it's all up for grabs at this point."

Whether fans are ready or not, "Scream 6" is hoping to outdo all expectations when it releases in theaters on March 10, 2023.
