Andrew Garfield Loses It In The Trailer For Noir Comedy Under The Silver Lake
Isn't that always the way? You meet the girl of your dreams, only for her to disappear and lead you on a surreal journey of self-discovery. We've all been there.
A24 released a trailer for Under the Silver Lake, the first movie for director David Robert Mitchell since the 2014 horror It Follows, and the noir-style mystery-comedy definitely looks intriguing. It also sounds amazing if you're really into the Violent Femmes. The trailer is set to their classic song "Add It Up."
Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man, Hacksaw Ridge) stars as a disenchanted 33-year-old who finds a captivating woman named Sarah (Riley Keough) having fun in the swimming pool of his Los Angeles apartment complex. But when she vanishes in the middle of the night, it sends Sam on a trippy journey across the city in search of answers. That, however, leads him into some of the deepest and darkest scandals and conspiracies in the City of Angels.
Here's the official synopsis: "From writer-director David Robert Mitchell comes a sprawling, playful and unexpected mystery-comedy detective thriller about the Dream Factory and its denizens — dog killers, aspiring actors, glitter-pop groups, nightlife personalities, It girls, memorabilia hoarders, masked seductresses, homeless gurus, reclusive songwriters, sex workers, wealthy socialites, topless neighbors and the shadowy billionaires floating above (and underneath) it all. Mining a noir tradition extending from Kiss Me Deadly and The Long Goodbye to Chinatown and Mulholland Drive, Mitchell uses the topography of Los Angeles as a backdrop for a deeper exploration into the hidden meaning and secret codes buried within the things we love."
We'll find out how he does it when Under the Silver Lake, co-starring Topher Grace (That '70s Show) and Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), hits theaters on June 22.
