The Parks And Rec Pawnee Rangers Scene That Retta Calls Her Favorite
Is there anyone who doesn't miss "Parks and Rec?"
The hit sitcom ran for nearly six years on NBC and turned relatively well-known supporting players like Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones into television stars. It also introduced wider audiences to the talents of Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Jurassic World"), Aubrey Plaza ("The White Lotus"), Aziz Ansari ("Master of None"), Adam Scott ("Severance"), and Nick Offerman (set to appear in HBO's "The Last of Us.") In this dauntingly stacked cast, however, no one delivered a one-liner quite like Retta, the comedian behind fan-favorite character Donna Meagle.
Donna was the office manager for the Pawnee Parks Department whose ambitions far exceeded her position — a character trait that made her and Ansari's equally cunning Tom Haverford a formidable duo. Shortly after ending "Parks and Rec," Retta joined the core cast of NBC's crime-dramedy "Good Girls," and she currently hosts HGTV's "Ugliest House in America."
While she was filming "Parks and Rec," however, Retta took part in a Q & A with fans online where she revealed which scene from the series made her so happy "it was unreal."
Of course, the Treat Yo' Self episode was her favorite.
In a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) that took place nine years ago on the subreddit r/IAmA, — which facilitates question-and-answer threads between interesting figures and interested Redditors — hundreds of "Parks and Rec" fans took to the comments to throw questions Retta's way. The actor answered all she could, providing behind-the-scenes info and personal opinions about her time on the series. U/motherawesome asked Retta which scene she most enjoyed filming throughout "Parks and Rec," to which the actor replied with an iconic moment from Season 4, Episode 4, "Pawnee Rangers."
"I particularly like the scene where Ben [Wyatt] comes out in the Batman suit," she wrote. This scene took place during the B-plot of "Pawnee Rangers," which arguably ended up not only overshadowing the main story of the episode (in which Leslie and Ron attempt to run versions of the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts) but became one of the most memorable storylines in the series.
While everyone else is away, Donna and Tom take pity on a depressed Ben (Adam Scott) by inviting him on a "Treat Yo' Self" outing. Though they initially fail to raise his spirits, the duo ultimately makes him weep with joy when they encourage and support him in purchasing a highly detailed Batman costume. Retta continued in her AMA, " ... seeing Adam Scott in that Batman suit brought so much joy to every molecule in my body it was unreal."
