Killing Eve Renewed For Season 2
Killing Eve is all set up to take another trip around the small screen, snagging a second season order before it even makes its official debut.
As announced by Deadline, BBC America has handed an ahead-of-time season 2 renewal to its already critically lauded drama series Killing Eve, developed for television by Solo: A Star Wars Story actress and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge from the novellas by Luke Jennings.
Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy) and Jodie Comer (The White Princess) topline Killing Eve as Eve Polastri and Villanelle, respectively. Oh's Eve is described as a "bored, whip-smart, pay-grade security services operative" whose humdrum, desk-bound, 9-to-5 life fails to fulfill her wildest fantasy of being a spy. Comer's Villanelle, on the other hand, is an "elegant, talented killer" who basks in the luxuries that her violent career path has granted her. Equally captivated with each other, obsessed with the world in which the other lives, the fiercely intelligent Eve and Villanelle soon collide, going head to head in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse.
BBC America President Sarah Barnett issued a statement responding to the season 2 renewal news: "This show has the thunder of women on both sides of the chase in Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer and, importantly, behind the camera with the lavishly brilliant Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The early response to Killing Eve has been incredible. For that reason, as well as the fact that we wholeheartedly love this original, funny, thrillingly entertaining series, we are delighted to move ahead with a second season before we even premiere."
Critics who caught early screenings of Killing Eve have applauded the series as "slickly made and mightily entertaining," calling it a "wholly original, suspenseful, and caustically funny" offering that "suggests a delightfully demented, considerably more violent spin on Broad City, Insecure, and Waller-Bridge's own Fleabag." Taking that praise into consideration, it's easy to see that viewers are clamoring for more Killing Eve, so it's little wonder why the show scored such an early renewal.
Killing Eve will premiere on Sunday, April 8 at 8 PM on BBC America.
