Social Media Is Obsessing Over The Song In The Official Teaser For Daisy Jones & The Six
Fans of rock music, the bestselling Taylor Jenkins Reid novel that inspired it, and romantic dramas are all thrilled about Prime Video's upcoming "Daisy Jones & the Six." Told in the form of a fictionalized oral history of the band, which is being recorded by a mysterious journalist, the novel takes a trip back in time to explain how the titular Six formed. While it also pauses in the perfumed garden of their salad days, it definitely also takes in the lowlights they were subjected to — and what caused them to break up. Think Fleetwood Mac — but with a whole different set of baggage.
It looks like the miniseries version of Jenkins Reed's tale is going to stick faithfully to the book's central conceits, including letting the percolating tension between the titular Daisy Jones (Riley Keough), bandmate Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin), and his wife Camila Dunne (Camila Morrone) play out onscreen. From rapturous on-stage highs to viscous fights, the trailer captures a number of the book's highlights.
Fans even got to hear a little bit of the band's music over the teaser trailer released on the official Prime Video YouTube page on January 25. While they've had lyrics to the Six's tunes before now, they've never had the grand experience of getting to hear them sung aloud until now. One toe-tapper, in particular, has them thrilled and ready to see how the miniseries' soundtrack will shape up.
Regret Me has fans crying in the aisles
Fans of "Daisy Jones & the Six" know that "Regret Me" is one of the band's signature tunes. Effortlessly encapsulating the sometimes-fraught relationship between Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne — and representative of a huge, shared songwriting breakthrough between them – it underpins the band's success as well as the book's themes of frustrated and bitter longing. Viewers finally got to hear "Regret Me" come to life thanks to that teaser trailer, and it was subsequently released in full on YouTube. They were wowed, to say the least.
Twitter fans immediately went gaga over the song's combination of lyrical impact and musical artistry. "[M]e after listening to regret me," tweeted @mirrorballcam, attaching a picture of Spongebob Squarepants floating up into a cloud-speckled blue sky with earbuds in his ears. "[W]when the music stops and you hear riley/daisy's "go ahead and regret me but i've already beaten you to it"...dude," said @simpforilcey, attaching the Andrei Tarkovsky poetic cinema meme. The Daily Beast editor Shannon O'Connor added, "Okay but Regret Me from #daisyjonesandthesix is already an absolute banger."
Those commenting on the YouTube edition of the Trailer were similarly thrilled — they can't get enough of "Regret Me" or "Daisy Jones & the Six." "I'M IN LOVE ALREADY" cried Margarida Baptista. The intense emotional response carried through to many other folks who listened in. "I almost fainted when I heard regret me!" commented a user named Celeste. Tons of other fans think the song sounds incredible and properly replicates the book's feeling for music.
Hopefully, the whole miniseries will enrapture them when the first installment of "Daisy Jones & the Six" hits Prime Video on March 3.
