Netflix's Maniac: Get Your First Look At Jonah Hill And Emma Stone
Jonah Hill and Emma Stone are maniacs. Well, they're co-stars in Netflix's upcoming series Maniac, at least.
Netflix rolled out a batch of first-look images for Maniac, a remake of the 2014 Norwegian show of the same name. Courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, the snaps of the mysterious dark comedy series tease Hill and Stone's characters trapped in a pharmaceutical trial gone wrong, as well as the show's trippy color palette and neon aesthetic.
Not much is known about Maniac in terms of plot specifics, and the new images don't do anything to alleviate confusion and clear up ambiguity, but it's not as if Netflix has left us completely in the dark until now. We know that Maniac is written by novelist Patrick Somerville and directed by True Detective season 1 alum Cary Fukunaga, who helms in his first directing gig since working on his Netflix original movie Beasts of No Nation. Additionally, we have a pretty solid actor roster for the 10-episode series: Justin Theroux plays James Mantleray, Sonoya Mizuno stars as Dr. Fujita, Julia Garner portrays a character named Ellie, and Jemima Kirke and Sally Field top off the central cast in undisclosed roles. The show is also described as centering on an "institutionalized man" who "dreams of a new life in a fantasy world."
As he did on the first season of True Detective, Fukunaga takes the reins for all 10 episodes of Maniac. Netflix hasn't yet confirmed a release date for the series.
